Fellow twirling athletes,

As I reflect on my past five years as Penn State’s featured baton twirler, Blue Sapphire, I can do nothing but smile. Without hesitation, I can say that stepping out onto Beaver Stadium’s field alongside 310 of my best friends and the 8 time National Champions, the Penn State Majorettes, has been the experience of a lifetime! Never would I have imagined performing in 5 college football bowl games, leading Marc Jacobs fashion show, leaping through the pages of W Magazine, twirling with the President of the University, oh and did I mention… featuring for the Penn State Blue Band at each and every home football game, with average attendance of 108,000 people?

In recent years, college twirling has provided twirlers across the country with a grand opportunity to showcase the talent, dedication, and sport-like qualities that baton twirling possesses. As collegiate twirling continues to grow, the need for funding for these twirling athletes is becoming more imperative in order to ensure that their focus is on being the best student and collegiate baton twirler they can be, just like any other collegiate athlete.

With this being said, I am proud to announce that Penn State University will be hosting the 1st Annual Blue Sapphire Classic, with all proceeds benefitting the David and Lori Uhazie Feature Twirler Scholarship Fund. Currently, the scholarship is an endowment, which provides partial tuition funding for the fall semester only. With your help, we hope to increase the base of the endowment enough that the Penn State feature twirler’s fall tuition would be covered.

Whether you are a faithful Nittany Lion fan who bleeds blue and white or this will be your first trip to Happy Valley, we can ensure you are in for a great experience. Please join us in our efforts by twirling at March 14th’s Blue Sapphire Classic!
